The JH Rose High School mission statement states we will ensure that all students master the skills necessary for success in a rapidly changing world. Part of the way we go about doing this is to offer our students a variety of resources to help plan for their futures.
Through our career development services we offer students the opportunity to develop career readiness skills through core academic skills and the ability to apply those skills to concrete situations in order to function in the workplace and in routine daily activities; employability skills (such as critical thinking and responsibility) that are essential in any career area; and technical, job-specific skills related to a specific career pathway.

Career and Technical EducationThrough our Career and Technical Education Department our students have the ability to obtain all of these career readiness skills. We offer courses in everything from principles of business & finance and entrepreneurship to interior design.
Through our Microsoft courses students have the ability to become Microsoft Word, Powerpoint and Excel certified. Our Health Science program offers students the opportunity to work hands on with patient's in local nursing homes as well as to take the Certified Nursing Assistant I test for registry as a CNA-I. Health Science students could also take the pharmacy technician pathway and take the Pharmacy Technician certification exam. Courses are offered in Early Childhood Education, where students are able to work off site with local day cares earning credits that will transfer to Pitt Community College and the Early Childhood Associates Degree program. In our on site garage students get hands on experience in the field of automotive maintenance and repair and work toward preparation for the Automotive Service Excellence certification in maintenance and light repair. Students interested in graphic design can take our Adobe Visual course which prepares them for certification in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator and the Adobe Video course that prepares them for Adobe Premiere certification. In our restaurant style kitchen students in culinary courses will be ServSafe certified and learn not only how to prepare and serve food but also the hospitality side of the culinary world. These hands on experiences are invaluable in teaching our students career readiness skills they will need in the future regardless of their path. |
Career and College PromiseCareer & College Promise (CCP) is a North Carolina initiative to enable eligible high school students to work, tuition free*, toward two-or four-year degree, a certificate or diploma.
The program is free to all students who maintain a “B” average and meet other eligibility requirements. Students can choose to take one of two paths with this approach.
For students interested in technical careers and post-secondary education, the courses they encounter as part of a CCP pathway will align closely with the level of work that will be expected of them after finishing high school. In addition, research has shown that high school students who take college courses are more likely to attend and graduate from college with an advanced certification or degree. For more information regarding this initiative please see the Pitt Community College link below: https://pittcc.edu/academics/high-school-programs/career-and-college-promise-ccp/ And for information on particular pathways please see the link below: https://pittcc.edu/academics/high-school-programs/approved-eligible-pathways-and-certificates/ *Students do not pay traditional tuition as part of the Career and College Promise program. There is however a $33 fee plus the cost of any books that will be the responsibility of the student. |
