ACADEMIC COUNSELING & ACES
ACES is a program developed and implemented in 2010-2011 at JH. Rose High School. Working closely with administrators, student services staff, classroom teachers, the school social worker and SRO, ACES counselors monitor and mentor students with environmental disadvantages, chronic absenteeism and academic challenges.

ACES counselors perform the following:
- Maintain a grade level roster through Google Document/Drive (update daily and share with other ACES and Student Services staff)
- Maintain an ACES Student Contact Log through Google Documents/Drive 9 (update daily and share with other ACES and guidance staff)
- Monitor daily attendance logs
- Meet with the students at 3,6,8 and 10 absences
- Make parental contact when beneficial
- Communicate with appropriate guidance personnel, classroom teachers and coaches
- Have students complete a Credit Adjustment Contract, when appropriate
- Follow up on the Credit Adjustment contract with Mrs. Jacobson, once the student has met obligations
- Meet with students that fail one or more classes after each report card
- Advise students of tutoring options (teacher tutoring sessions, Khan Academy, Hippocampus.org, etc.)
- Assist teachers when they have referred a student to ACES
- Attend Student Services meetings as needed
- Coordinate the ECU Teaching Fellows Tutors
