What is Advisory?
At JHR advisory classes occur every other Monday after 1st period class. Advisory's are grouped by grade level and last name, and student's advisory teachers will move grade levels with them each year. We do this so students can build a strong relationship with their adviser, so they know they have an advocate in the school, feel supported and know they have someone they can go to for feedback or assistance. Because of this connection our students can learn more about their academic and personal strengths as well as areas for improvement.
Advisory is also a time for students to become more connected to one another in meaningful ways. Through class discussions, democratic classroom decision making and activities, students can form bonds with one another as well as learn more about themselves in relation to others.
